Lancaster County in South Carolina is no stranger to 55+ communities that have a wide appeal among older adults. Sun City Carolina Lakes is the newest such community and when completed will be compromised of 4,400 homes ranging from the upper $100,000s to the mid $300,000s. The area is appealing to many that want to be closer to friends and family, who want to buy a home that requires less maintenance, or simply want to live in an area that caters to their lifestyle. In many areas the population of those that are 55 and over is growing. For example, Howard County has a huge 55+ community that will grow to be as much as 31% of the population by 2030. Because of the older populations, it’s important that housing is built to accommodate the needs of these citizens. While it used to be common for aging adults to grow old in their family homes, many are now attracted to the active adult communities, which allow them to live in lifestyle appropriate homes where they can interact with other people their age. Single-family homes, condominiums, town houses, and villas are commonly built in these 55+ communities.

Finding a great place to live if you have recently retired can seem a difficult task. No longer do you want the maintenance and upkeep associated with your current home, but you are also not ready for an assisted living community. Luckily, there is something in between and if you live in the Fairfax County area you are definitely in luck. Mega homebuilder Pulte is currently planning Spring Hills in Lorton, which will offer all of the comforts of home as well as amenities for the active senior.
