Baby Boomers and Retirement
The baby boomer generation may be getting older, but it does not mean that they have lost all of their sense of taste and style. This is especially true when it comes to the luxury features that are standard on a lot of the newer homes of today. Baby boomers have a very clear picture as to what they want from their retirement, and a lot of them are focusing strongly on luxury items.
While it is a known fact that baby boomers are interested in moving into active adult communities, they still want to be able to live with a high level of luxury. Even if they have not been able to do this in the past, when retiring they hope to change this trend and live out their final years in style.
The idea of buying a smaller home, perhaps in an active adult community, is very appealing to most baby boomers. This will allow them to better control their finances, and also lessen some of the stress in their life by cutting back on high maintenance chores that go along with keeping up a big home. But one thing is for sure, this generation is not looking to downscale just so they can say that they did it. Instead, they are looking for very specific luxury features from their new home.
Nationwide there are approximately 80 million baby boomers. While all of these people are not yet retired, they are moving in that direction. This is most definitely going to put a major strain on the active adult community market as things continue to progress in this direction. This is the main reason that so many developers have decided to try their hand in this arena.
Overall, baby boomers are retiring in large numbers, and are in turn looking for new homes that are less maintenance. The solution to their problems can be found in one of the many active adult communities located across the country. But remember, baby boomers have not forgotten about luxury. This is what they want when they retire!
