Retirees Heading Back North
Many retirees who decided to head south have changed their minds and reversed their way of thinking. This has led to more and more active adult communities being built in the north and Midwest, and the current communities having to deal with a new influx of people.
There are many reasons as to why people move back up north after a few years in the south. Some of the more common reasons include being closer to family, when their health begins to weaken, or when they start to run out of money. Although one of these reasons does not always result in a move back to the north, this trend is becoming more and more popular.
The number one reason for these moves is most definitely to be closer to family. A lot of retirees think that fun in the sun is the best thing when they hang up their work boots. But after a few years at an active adult community in the south, they learn that they are missing their family. In turn, they head back north and put a strain on the community that they move back into.
As you can imagine, builders have decided to slowly look at developing active adult communities in northern states. This will do two things. First off, when people are looking to move back to the area they will have a viable option that is similar to where they were coming from. And, it should also help to keep people closer to home in the first place. After all, if they have an active adult community close to home they may not even want to try a move to the south.
Overall, more and more retirees are heading back to the northern and Midwestern states after a few years at a southern active adult community. It is hard to say if this trend is going to continue or level off in the future.
