Active Adult Communities: The Downside

Active Adult Communities: The Downside
Even though moving into an active adult community is not the right choice for everyone, a lot of people end up going in this direction. This is only going to continue in the next few years as more and more baby boomers begin to retire. But what about the people who already live in the areas where these active adult communities are being built? Have you ever stopped to think about how they will be affected?

In most cases, local residents do not put up a fight when a developer decides to break ground on an active adult community in their area. They know it is for the good, and in many cases they can benefit as well. But just like any other type of real estate development, there are times when people get made about an active adult community coming into their town.

One of the bigger concerns among people is that an active adult community will decrease how much their current home is worth. While this is not always true, this can be the case in some parts of the country.

Another problem that people talk about is that an active adult community will raise the amount of traffic in their area. There is no denying this, and depending on the size of the active adult community the traffic can increase by quite a bit. Not only do the people who live in active adult communities have to get around the area, but their visitors must also do the same thing.

All in all, active adult communities are not all fun and games. They have a lot to offer the people who live there, but in many cases local residents try to block the development. How would you feel if a builder broke ground on an active adult community in your neighborhood?
