Sun City Carolina Lakes is a housing community located twenty five miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina. The community plans to open in March, offering more than four hundred and fifty homes to be sold. Plans do not stop there for the active adult community though, as the number of homes available will grow into the thousands eventually.

On top of the homes themselves, the retirement community will offer a huge list of amenities, ranging from a golfing course and a gigantic recreation center, to a social hall complete with a ballroom and billiard tables. Outdoor recreation is to include walking trails, and clubs specifically for water sports like kayaking and canoeing.

Some have implied that age restrictions on these communities will restrict sales of the homes in the communities, but that is not the case. There are more than seventy seven million baby boomers in the United States population, and they all will be retiring in the next few years to come.

With that said, there is plenty of profit in building adult communities with strict age restrictions, as most all retiring individuals and couples alike are interested in stress free, low maintenance housing that promotes active lifestyles and eliminates family style living, as these families are now limited to adults.

An advantage that adult community developers are experiencing is the fact that retired consumers like to spend money, and they will spend good money for a living arrangement that promotes the lifestyle they have set their minds on.

This is what has broadened the spectrum to include these adult communities in many cities across the country, not just limit them to the sunny states of Arizona or Florida as they have predominantly been found in the past.

Although homes in retirement communities are smaller and cost the same, retired consumers are willing to purchase because of the amenities, securities, and convenience these active lifestyle adult communities offers.
