River Oaks Village
River Oaks Village will nearly double the population of the small town of Catawba, North Carolina. The community will blend in and keep the small town atmosphere, as sidewalks and trees will surround it. This active adult community will be gated and will have 1,500 units. These units will include condominiums, town houses, and single-family homes. The community will not have an age limit and will offer swimming, golf, walking trails, tennis, and access to Lake Norman.
The town and people of Catawba are hoping this new residential community will revitalize the area since the mills have closed and many downtown shops are no longer in business. When the entire project is completed, the hope is the area will be renewed and businesses will
locate in the area. The businesses along Main Street are already looking forward to the new businesses that will complement the existing businesses.
Increased revenue will help to restore the downtown area and beautify its image. The new community will be located about a mile outside the downtown area.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for spring 2007 with completion in four or five years. River Oaks Village will include 40 acres of shops that will appeal to active adults. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and boutiques will be part of that shopping complex.
Catawba hopes to draw the residents moving into River Oaks Village into the small town feeling and make them feel welcome and a part of their small town. The developer of the community plans to develop the site without adding congestion and take away the small town atmosphere. The new community will keep the historical part of the town and heighten the historical presence. The new community could add as many as 3,000 people to the present population.
