+55 Housing Council
The National Association of Home Builders sure does think so. They have even changed their Senior Housing unit’s name from the “Senior Sousing Council” to the “50+ Housing Council”. Why you may ask? Well, to them the answer is simple. Older folks do not like to be referred to as seniors, so the name change was in response to their home owner’s concerns.
Also in response to mature home buyers that do not consider themselves seniors, they have committed to developing homes that aren’t the generalized old folks homes people just don’t want anymore. The 50+ consumers are not upgrading, but instead downsizing to smaller houses or condominiums that are located closer to their own social surroundings.
What they are looking for is more of a resort type of lifestyle tat will accommodate their needs but at the same time allow them to fulfill their life enjoyment to its fullest extent. Until recently, even the thought of different options has not been a reality, as retirement communities tend to lack in variety therefore leaving little choice.
Retired consumers make up approximately twenty five percent of home buyers in America making it the fastest growing group of buyers to date. Space isn’t the concern for retired home buyers, convenience and closeness to social spots are. With that said, the trend in building communities that are based on specified needs and wants of the potential homeowners has become more apparent.
A variety of different retired housing types located close to cities are sprouting up more and more in an attempt to offer more of what the 50+ consumer wants, in turn bringing in a profit that has not been predicted until now. With new designs, less impact on city resource utilization in addition to more choices, the situation becomes a win/win situation for everyone involved.
