Developing Homes For the Fastest Growing Population Segment

Developing Homes For the Fastest Growing Population Segment

The senior residents of Franklin Tennessee are like seniors in most places, they simply are not able or do not want to upkeep a large home anymore. Not only do they not want to take care of the home, they don’t want to take care of the home’s grounds and they cannot as easily maneuver stairs and reach for high cabinets. Active retirement communities such as Reid Hill in Franklin offer these adults the opportunity to live in beautiful homes that meet all of their needs. Active retirement communities are becoming popular as baby boomers are turning 60 and slowing down. Longer life expectancy and better health have opened up a whole new market of housing that is really taking off with baby boomers aging and a good portion of them looking for something new and different.

The great thing about active retirement communities is that they do away with old stereotypes that all older adults need assistance. Active adult communities simply offer significant facilities and services for people 55 and older, according to the Fair Housing Act of 1968 that was updated by the Clinton administration. Because the stigma of living in such a community has lessened, developers are able to attract a larger portion of the consumer base to communities such as Reid Hill.

The developers of senior communities such as Reid Hill really do design the properties for seniors. Not only does Tennessee offer all four seasons, the homes are for seasoned adults that prefer not to have stairs and find that one level homes are easier to clean and care for. Not only are inside steps done away with, developers try very hard to do away with the need to have steps outside, as well.

Small details make all the difference for seniors, and developers pay attention. Wider doorways and hallways to accommodate walker, canes, and wheelchairs are one such detail that is very nice. Many builders also include built in shower seats, handrails, and taller vanities and toilets. Small items such as electrical outlets are often placed higher on the wall, light switches are lowered, and cabinets are placed lower as well. While these are not features that may be needed when the owner moves in, they will likely come in very handy in ten years or so.

Developers have learned that bigger is not necessarily better for seniors. Active adult communities are all about making seniors comfortable now and as they age. Little details make the house what it is, and invite larger populations all the time.
